Meet Some of Our First Students at PHS!
STELLA
Stella lives with her aging bibi (grandmother) If something were to happen to her, Stella would be all alone. In the past, Stella has washed clothes for other families to earn enough money to eat. Despite being from a very poor family, she was able to finish primary school. Unfortunately, her relatives were unable to send her on to any secondary school.
SELEMAN
Both of Seleman's parents have died and he now lives with his aunt and uncle near Arusha (pictured). He completed primary school and scored very well on his exams, allowing him to enroll at a government secondary school. Although his aunt and uncle were able to borrow money to pay the required fees for a desk and uniform, they knew paying all the secondary school fees would be impossible.
WILSON
Wilson's father died in 2001 and his mother is very sick. He was able to attend primary school and did well on his entrance exams. Wilson was accepted by a secondary school but was devastated to learn he could not attendsince he could not pay the fees. He and his brother work hard to help provide for their family.
HAPPY
Meet Happy. She is one of the first students to be accepted at PHS! Happy's father disappeared long ago and her mother and younger siblings died of AIDS. Though she lives with extended family, they are unable to provide her with nourishment and education. She looks forward to attending PHS in the fall.
JOHNSON
Johnson is excited about the opportunity to attend Peace House Secondary School. He lives with his father and mother and several younger siblings. His father is disabled and unable to work. They have no farm animals or work for income and no possible way for Johnson to continue his education. His eagerness to learn will make him a great asset to PHS.
